Nobody needs to know your personal business. We all deserve our dignity and privacy. If you want to help your friends, tell them something about the "truth" that may help them to start thinking for themselves. If even one person is aroused from the mind numbing tactics of the cult, you have done them a great kindness.

Disassociation letter2
by Suzie inso... i finally have thought about somethings that i want to say in my letter to disassociate... in my last topic starter regarding this, someone had meantioned disfellowship papers?
why would they be sending disfellowshipment papers if i take myself out?.
in the letter, i am thinking about making the one to my friends kinda short and sweet and to the point.

guidlines for dress and grooming as laid out by CO
by bluebeads inso the co visited my cong and at the ms and elders meeting the brothers were told that those wiht parts on the platforms must not have sideburns, mustaches, beards or shaved heads because it is worldly.
as well bright colorful dress shirts are not permitted eother because it distracts from the "important message" of the talk.
there was also heavy counsel on tattoos.. on a totally different topic, i was talking to my mom the other day and she was going on about how free she would be in paradise.

In my congregation they counseled a MS for shaving his head. He was white. He asked why brothers that were black could shave their heads and not be counceled. They told him it was more culturally acceptrd in one race than the other. He refused to stop and moved to another state. Does this make any sense? I thought there was not supposed to be any predjudice in the organization.

Did 9-11 Change Your Life?
by Blueblades inon a crisp september morning nearly five years ago, terrorists hijacked four american airliners in a coordinated suicidal attack on america.
within hours, thousands of americans were dead, new york city's two tallest buildings were gone, the pentagon in washington was ripped open and a stunned america was watching helplessly - fearfully - as images from ground zero filled their tv.
screens.

I know as a witness that you aren't supposed to put your trust in governments. But I think I still really felt "protected" in the USA. I felt safe from anything like this because of living in the world power. 9-11 helped me to see that all of that was an illusion. And I don't think I will ever feel that sense of security again. It made mr feel powerless and vunerable. Kind of like when I realized that I didn't have the absolute truth and I was going to grow old and die like everyone else. Both occassions were faith shattering.

Bethel meals
by Alligator Wisdom inhave any of you had the experience of eating with the bethel family?.
what were some of the idiosyncrasies of it?.
as i mentioned before in another thread, it was brought up to me by another jw guest after the meal that it was "as if this was like a cult" when everyone would drop their utensils on que, stand up in unison and end the meal with a prayer.

I ate lunch there once. What inpressed me the most was how incredibly fast they ate. I was just getting started and they were finishing already. The food was good, but the pace was so hectic that it was a sure recipe for indegestion. And nobody seemed to say much-just scarf down their food and run back to work. I lived in a boarding school once and it was a much more pleasant and relaxed atmosphere.

Big Announcement
by choosing life ini can't help but wonder why if there is really some ground shaking announcement coming that the elders already know, then why has no one posted any real information about it?
i was under the impression that there are active elders on this forum.
why are they holding back?

I was under the impression that there are active elders on this forum. Why are they holding back? Either it is a bunch of nothing or these elders are being silenced by fear. It makes me think that there is mass hysteria going on, being carried out by the society. I haven't been on this board very long, but already there have been things I knew before my JW mate has. If there is really something important-please elder friends, let us know. If not maybe the society is playing us.

She just listened ouietly and didn't say much, but the wheels were turning. I didn't push it and only answered questions. Maybe there is still hope.

FMS is also called fibromyalgia syndrome/chronic fatigue syndrome. It causes constant pain and very limited supply of energy. They don't know the cause and treatment is very limited. It varies in severity, but a severe case is disabling.

I've noticed several people on this board mention they have FMS and similar type afflictions. FMS is known to be brought about by physical/emotional stress. I have suffered from it for many years. What I have noticed is that the number of sisters who now have this is dramatic. Do you think that having to live the JW lifestyle is what pushes them into this type of sickness? I have often thought that living a life where your heart is divided from your mind is to blame. But walking away from it has its own stress attached. Anyone had success treating this disease?

This is the title of a book by Arthur J. Deikman about cult behavor. It is very worth a look at. I had actually ordered a different book from the library and they couldn,t get it and gave me this one when I went to pick up my order. It relates experiences about a couple who get involved in a cult through psychology. People who studied how the mind works and taught in universities. But as I read their experiences, it gave me chills how similar their tactics were.It then goes on to show cult behavior in so many facets of life-politics,business,religion etc. It isn't one I'll soon forget. I believe it was serendipidy that I even found it. Anyone else read this book?
